Two U.S. troops killed in Iran missile attack

Two U.S. servicemembers were killed and several wounded in an Iranian missile attack on a Jordan air base.The U.S. Central Command confirmed the incident, reporting one additional servicemember is missing.

Four servicemembers were evacuated to Jordanian hospitals and later discharged.

Personnel with minor injuries returned to duty, according to Centcom.

U.S. officials noted that Iran has improved its missile technology, allowing for high-speed, maneuverable attacks.

Concerns have risen about potential targeting assistance for Iran from countries like China or Russia.

These U.S. fatalities mark the first from hostile action since a ceasefire was declared by President Trump in April.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that these losses will strengthen U.S. resolve.

Lawmakers expressed condolences, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senator Jeanne Shaheen, who called for negotiations to end hostilities.

The assault occurred at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, a strategic location for U.S. operations.

Since the beginning of the month, clashes have intensified due to disputes over the Strait of Hormuz.

Both parties seem committed to continued conflict while avoiding full-scale war.

In response, the U.S. is deploying more military aircraft to the region, including F-16s from Germany.

Stealthy F-35s are also being sent from a British base as part of enhanced military readiness.

The prior memorandum to ease tensions has collapsed amid ongoing conflicts.
