Iran nuclear agreement

Trump affirmed that Iran had indeed consented to refrain from developing nuclear weapons but cautioned that this could change.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry did not comment on the interview, but a government official labeled Trump’s remarks as misleading.

The official clarified that Iran is a long-time member of the NPT and has always maintained that its nuclear program is peaceful and non-military.

According to the official, framing Iran’s position as agreeing not to develop nuclear arms inaccurately implies a past pursuit of such weapons.

Currently, the war has reached a stalemate, with no significant progress towards a ceasefire or peace agreement between Washington and Tehran.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned ongoing negotiations, despite Iranian state media indicating a halt in communications.

This consistent mixed messaging around negotiations has characterized the war, resulting in contradictory updates from both parties.

In the same Senate session, Rubio suggested that Iran was open to discussing parts of its nuclear program, indicating a potential breakthrough.

After Trump’s comments, oil prices are climbing, and U.S. stock futures show mixed results, reflecting market uncertainty.

Oil prices remain below $100 but remain high as the Strait of Hormuz has faced effectively closure, impacting global oil trade.

Iran’s state media reported plans to fully close the Strait in response to perceived ceasefire violations.
