Trump charged: NYC prosecutors target taxes

Prosecutors in New York have officially charged the Trump Organisation, Trump Payroll Corporation and CFO Allen Weisselberg with 15 counts of felony.

This follows investigations into an alleged tax avoidance scheme from 2005, with the three parties being charged with a scheme to defraud, conspiracy, criminal tax fraud and falsifying business records.

The charges were laid down by the Manhattan district attorney… with this office being the first to formally charge the former President’s company with criminal offences.

Trump has hit back at the claims, saying in a statement “the political Witch Hunt by the Radical Left Democrats, with New York now taking over the assignment, continues. It is dividing our Country like never before!”

Prosecutors say they have evidence of a 15-year tax scheme, with allegations the C-F-O evaded $1.7 million worth of income taxes.

They will rely on digital drives with grand jury testimony, bookkeeping records, tax records, and statements of potential witnesses.

The lead prosecutor says they have asked for Weisselberg’s passport to be taken as they are concerned he is a flight risk.

Meanwhile, the Trump Organisation’s main attorney believes “if the name of the company was something else, I don’t think these charges would have been brought.”
