Travel chaos – 5,000 passengers forced to cancel plans

London’s Heathrow airport is in chaos today after 30 flights carrying a total of 5,000 passengers were cancelled at the eleventh hour

Following technical issues at baggage reclaim areas, airport management requested airlines cut 10 per cent of scheduled flights across terminals two and three.

Footage like what you are seeing on screen right now has been widely shared online.

Meanwhile, at the city’s Gatwick airport, EasyJet announced its plans to cut 7 per cent of its 160,000 flights between July and September.

Staff shortages are plaguing the aviation sector right now, with Gatwick’s management saying they have no other choice but to reduce the number of flights allowed to take off from the airport.

This means tens of thousands of passengers right across the UK have now been hit by airport disruptions and flight cancellations in the last few weeks alone, and there seems to be no end in sight.

Heathrow says cutting the number of flights will ultimately “minimise” the impact of the technical issues affecting the baggage systems, apologising for disruptions passengers have faced.

Just a few weeks ago, hundreds of flights across Britain were cancelled, with growing concerns of further travel chaos this coming summer.
