The EU calls for travel Covid-19 measures to be scrapped

The European Union is pushing to have testing and quarantine measures for vaccinated travellers dropped

Under this new advice, travellers from countries inside the EU would be able to move freely across borders.

The coordinated response would see restrictions lifted for those who hold a valid EU Covid certificate, in a bid to facilitate “safe and free movement” across Europe.

Provided each country follows the guidance, fully vaccinated travellers will be able to move freely around the bloc’s 27 member states.

Individual countries will still retain the right to issue their own additional restrictions if desired.

This all comes as the World Health Organisation’s Europe Director, Hans Kluge, indicates that the emergence of the Omicron variant may lead to an end to “the emergency phase” of the pandemic this year.
