T Mobile has confirmed that over 47 million customers have been impacted by a data hack

An American telco giant has been hit by a mass data breach, exposing over 47 million customers data online.

In a statement, T-Mobile says they have been “working around the clock to investigate claims being made that T-Mobile data may have been illegally accessed.”

“We have determined that unauthorized access to some T-Mobile data occurred, however we have not yet determined that there is any personal customer data involved.”

The company stated in a statement.

Investigations continuing by digital forensics

The telecom organisation revealed it was confident that it has closed an “entry point” which it believes is the way cyber criminals gained access to the data of customers.

Digital forensics are continuing to conduct an analysis to understand the severity of the breech.

“This investigation will take some time but we are working with the highest degree of urgency. Until we have completed this assessment we cannot confirm the reported number of records affected or the validity of statements made by others.”

It is currently not clear if the impacted T-Mobile customers have been notified.
