Switzerland’s airspace has closed after a technical failure affected the air traffic control system

Flights were grounded at the country’s main airports.

Skyguide released a statement saying “Swiss airspace is closed to traffic for security reasons after computer failure with Skyguide, the Swiss air traffic control service”.

Details of the technical glitch haven’t been revealed but Switzerland’s air navigation service provider says it is working to fix the issue and “regrets this incident and its consequences”

Geneva’s airport tweeted earlier that it was grounding all of its flights until 11am due to the technical disruption.

Meanwhile international flights to Switzerland are being rerouted to Milan in Italy.
