Star Trek star William Shatner blasted off into space on Thursday marking the second Blue Origin suborbital tourism flight

The 90 year old is now the oldest person to travel to space in history. His historic trip on the rocket system – developed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos – lasted about 10 minutes.

“Everybody in the world needs to do this,” the Star Trek actor told Bezos after landing back on Earth, saying “It was unbelievable.”

The four person all-civilian crew departed from Texas at about 1:45AM, on the 18.3 metre-tall fully autonomous New Shepard spacecraft.

Returning soon after the 10 minute flight, Shatner basked in the irony of his space trip, considering his role in Star Trek as a space explorer.

He thanked the Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos saying he gave him “the most profound experience”.
