Spain has moved to deploy military personnel after 8,000 migrants entered the country via the ocean from Morrocco
Officials say the migrants either swam around border fences or walked across at low tide.
The 8,000 individuals include 1,500 children – with Spain’s P-M Pedro Sanchez vowing to restore order.
The country’s Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska says 200 troops and 200 extra police have been deployed to deal with the unfolding situation.
Spanish authorities have already sent around 2,700 migrants home – none of whom are minors.
These latest developments are being viewed as the worst diplomatic spat between Spain and Morrocco in years.
