“Security situation” outside the CIA headquarters impacts US flight network

WASHINGTON — The FBI has confirmed a man who attempted to drive into the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, on Monday was shot by agents after an hourslong standoff.

Two law enforcement officials say the intruder tried to drive into the CIA building without access at about 6 p.m. ET.

He was stopped by armed guards who operate a series of gates at the Central Intelligence Agency. Security officers had been negotiating with the man and after he repeatedly refused to move, a decision was made to try to push the car out of the way.

A short time later, the suspect got out of his car and brandished a gun before being shot by FBI agents at the scene. One of the officials says the person claimed to have explosives, however authorities confirmed those claims.

According to the two officials, the man is mentally disturbed and has who has tried repeatedly in the past to get into the CIA campus.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was transported to an area hospital, the FBI said. The extent of his injuries was not known.

“The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously. ”

Flight network disrupted

The FBI confirmed a decision was made to suspend flights in the area.

Flights were ordered not to fly within the aerospace of the crime scene, due to the ongoing investigation.

It is still unclear if the incident is terror related.
