Human Rights Watch says Russian forces have violated their obligations under international law
The US-based group is calling out Russia for conducting attacks that harmed civilians in Ukraine overnight.
The comments come after eight civilians were killed while fleeing the Russian army’s advances.
In a statement, Human Rights Watch says “Russian forces bombarded an intersection on a road that hundreds of civilians were using to flee the army’s advance in northern Ukraine”.
They went on to say “The repeated nature of the attacks suggests that Russian forces violated their obligations under international humanitarian law not to conduct indiscriminate or disproportionate attacks that harm civilians”.
It comes as the threat of nuclear war-fare continues to grow, as Russia’s President Putin suggests there will be consequences that have never been seen before.
