Russia cuts off gas to Bulgaria and Poland

Russia will officially suspend its gas deliveries to Bulgaria, just hours after Poland also confirmed its Russian supplies will be halted

Bulgaria’s energy ministry says his country has taken steps to secure alternative gas supplies, and there is no need to restrict gas consumption.

The Russian company at the centre of the suspensions has proposed a new payment scheme, breaching its current contract with Bulgaria.

Earlier in April, Vladimir Putin ordered that all gas purchasers would need to pay for their supplies in Russian roubles through Russian banks accounts to continue receiving supplies.

This is in response to increasing Western sanctions which are crippling the nation financially.
