It’s a grim situation throughout the country with heavy Russian bombardments forcing some residents of Ukrainian towns and cities to bury dead people in makeshift mass graves as the death toll climbs

Sadly, this pregnant woman pictured being stretchered from a bombed maternity hospital has died, along with her baby.

Images showed her on a stretcher following the airstrike in Mariupol last week

She was meant to give birth at that maternity hospital. like many other women in labour and with newborns… but instead had to escape a catastrophe bomb on their ward

The surgeon who treated the woman told Ukrainian television While she was being resuscitated and the anti-shock measures were being taken, they performed a cesarean section and took a child with no signs of life. They both died.

According to the AP, medics did not have time to get the woman’s name before her husband and father came to retrieve her body, so she did not end up in one of Mariupol’s mass graves.

Many pregnant women were injured, and the tragic images from the disaster pulled at heartstrings right around the world

Also in Mariupol, we know 60 cars were loaded with evacuees to leave on Monday… and around 700 managed to flee

Some 300-thousand residents still remain in the port city and sadly 2 thousand 500 residents have been killed in Mariupol, a city that has been battered daily by Russian rockets and shells.

People are running out of food and clean water, with an urgent need for aid deliveries and an agreed plan for more evacuations.
