Clash in northern Afghanistan – who’s occupying the region?

Published

on

A Taliban offensive and rebel fighters from the National Resistance Front have clashed in northern Afghanistan

Heavy fighting was reported on Sunday, in a strategic location of the nation known for its precious mineral resources.

This part of Afghanistan is about 90 miles to the north of Kabul, and it is the last area that remains unoccupied by the Taliban.

The region once a stronghold when militants battled the Soviets is now where the country’s resistance movement is based

The Taliban have now taken all areas of the region except for the capital itself and a few other districts, which the NRF still control.

The Taliban say their enemy has suffered “heavy casualties”…saying they could take control of the entire region within a few days.

However, the NRF has disputed these claims, indicating that the Taliban has been weakened in the region, with many being captured or fleeing entirely.
