North Macedonia Prime Minister Zoran Zaev resigns

The Prime Minster of North Macedonia has resigned after losing the second round of mayoral elections in multiple towns across the country.

He says he takes “responsibility for these developments” and “resigns from the post of prime minister and party president”,

The former PM says an early election is unnecessary but another candidate should be agreed upon instead.

The leader of the nationalist opposition party has called for a snap election.
