Former South Carolina governor prepares to challenge her former boss, Donald Trump

Nikki Haley, who was the first woman and person of colour elected by voters to serve as South Carolina’s governor made a big announcement.

She became the first major candidate to commit to challenging former President Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

“The socialist left sees an opportunity to rewrite history. China and Russia are on the march. They all think we can be bullied. Kicked around,” she said in a video announcement.

“You should know this about me: I don’t put up with bullies. And when you kick back, it hurts them more if you’re wearing heels.”

The 51-year-old former United Nations Ambassador in the Trump administration will be the only woman in the field for now as Republicans consider whether or not to pick a new nominee.

In November, Haley’s former boss launched his third White House bid and remains the party’s dominant figure.

Her announcement video has been released a day before her planned formal campaign announcement speech, which is scheduled to be delivered in Charleston, South Carolina.

Meanwhile, there are ongoing conversations among Democrats as to whether President Joe Biden should seek re-election.

He is already the oldest to assume the Presidency in U.S. history.

His potential run would also come as Republicans have launched numerous investigations into his administration as well as possible corruption by the Biden family in their overseas business dealings.
