New release – the FBI opens files on Saudi links to 9/11

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation has released a document that looks into the connections between Saudi citizens in America and two of the September 11 terrorists

The reclassification comes as the nation marks 20 years since the tragic event… with victims’ relatives pushing for years for the release of the files, arguing that the Saudi government was linked to the terror plot

But the document disproves this theory, providing no evidence that the Saudi government was in any way involved with the attacks.

The Saudi embassy in Washington applauded the reclassification, saying any link between its kingdom and the terrorists is “false and malicious”.

Almost all of the hijackers on September 11 were Saudi nationals, with Al-Qaeda’s former leader, Osama bin Laden, from an influential Saudi family.

In a statement, the families of some 9/11 victims say “even with the unfortunate number of redactions… the report contains a host of bombshell new revelations, implicating numerous Saudi government officials”.

Saudi’s Foreign Minister responded to the release saying he was always confident that the document “would completely show that there was no Saudi involvement … in any way.”
