Myanmar’s government has confirmed that it will release more than five thousand protestors who were jailed for protesting against the nation’s Coup in February

The coup leader says the prisoners are being released for humanitarian reasons and comes just days after the general was prevented from attending the ASEAN summit.

The Association of the South East Asian Nations says the military has not done enough to end the violence… and opted to invited a non-political Myanmar representative instead of the leader.

More than 1,100 people were killed and over 7-thousand arrested, charged or sentence during the coup, which saw the nation’s former ruler being removed from power.

The prisoners will be released to mark an upcoming Buddhist holiday.
