Mourners gather in Tokyo to pay respects for Shinzo Abe

Just days after Japan’s former prime minister was assassinated, mourners have gathered at a temple in Tokyo to pay their respects

Hundreds attended the private wake for Shinzo Abe, with Japan’s current PM Fumio Kishida, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and the U.S. Ambassador to Japan all in attendance.

Abe’s wife, was seen crying with her eyes shut in the front seat of the hearse carrying her husband’s body.

As the service began, a ceremony to send off the dead was performed… with prayers recited and incense offerings made.

Members of the public have also been encouraged to enter part of the temple and pay their last respects.

Also in Japan, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken says it is important to show up for friends during a time of need.

Trump claims Iran’s military largely neutralized; tensions rise with attacks threatening air travel and oil shipping.

President Trump says Iran’s military capability has been largely neutralised, including its navy and air force, as the conflict in the Middle East intensifies. Iranian attacks have threatened commercial air travel and oil shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of wider economic fallout.

The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh has faced two attacks, while Gulf states worked to intercept further Iranian strikes. Officials report six U.S. troops killed and more than 700 deaths inside Iran as the exchange of fire escalates.

With global markets watching closely, the region remains on edge as military and diplomatic tensions show no signs of easing.
