More than half of U.S. voters want Trump charged

Published

More than half of U.S. voters want to see Donald Trump criminally charged over his role in the January 6 Capitol riot

But, as the House select committee continues its investigation into the attack, Americans do still remain divided over how the former president should be held accountable.

While the Harvard poll shows 53 per cent of voters agree Trump needs to face criminal charges, 54 per cent still think he should be allowed to run for office again.

The polling indicates just how divisive and explosive indicting Trump would be.

In the Capitol riot hearings, the House heard how Trump attempted to pressure state electors, former Vice President Mike Pence and the Justice Department to swing the 20-20 election in his favour.

Evidence also suggests Trump inspired the mob to storm the federal building in a bid to stop certification of the election result.
