Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and ‘the spirit of Ukraine’ have been named as Time Magazine’s 2022 Person of the Year

Each year, the award goes to an event or person deemed to have had the most influence on global events over the past 12 months.

Zelensky beat out other finalists, which included Chinese President Xi Jinping, the US Supreme Court, Iranian protestors and Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

The leader had inspired Ukrainians and was recognised internationally for his courage and resisting the Russian invasion.

Time’s Editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal revealed how the team get together to come up with the eventual winner.
