The Philippines has a new leader, with Ferdinand Marcos Junior set to be sworn in as the nation’s next president

Nicknamed ‘Bong Bong’, he won 60 percent of the vote over rival Leni Robredo.

His father ruled the Philippines under martial law between 1972 until 1981, until being ousted in the late 80s.

This recent victory signals a surprising comeback for the Marcos political dynasty, with the family pushing to regain power for decades.

The victory follows the country’s Supreme Court dismissing the last remaining challenges against Bong Bong’s election.

He will take his oath of office at midday local time at the National Museum in Manila.
