Emmy award-winning actress Kirstie Alley has died

The actress who became known for her roles in ‘Cheers’ and ‘Veronica’s Closet’ has died at the age of 71.

Kirstie Alley’s children said the Hollywood star died after a short battle with cancer.

“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.”

Alley won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for her breakout role in the ’90s sitcom ‘Cheers‘.

John Travolta has posted on social media, where he paid tribute paid tribute to his close friend.

“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie,” he shared.

“I know we will see each other again.”

Alley also starred on the big screen in ‘Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan‘, ‘It Takes Two‘ and ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous‘.
