Comedian and veterans rights activist Jon Stewart has slammed Senate Republicans for blocking legislation designed to extend health care benefits to American war heroes

The bill was designed to benefit more than 3 million veterans and 9/11 first responders who were exposed to toxic chemicals like Agent Orange.

Eight Republicans joined the Democrats in voting for the bill, but it wasn’t enough to meet the 60 vote threshold required.

Speaking outside the American Capitol building, Stewart tore into those lawmakers who failed to “show up”

Stewart also took aim at Senate minority leader Mitch McConnelll after he claimed he could not support the bill because it created a “slush fund” for discretionary spending.
