Japan continues to hold concerns for COVID safety at the Tokyo Olympics
Now the nation is considering requiring fans attending the Tokyo Olympics to show negative COVID-19 test results or vaccination records, according to local media.
The report also detailed that a new poll showed public opposition to the Games remained strong.
Japan extended a state of emergency in Tokyo and other regions of the country until June 20th as the start date to the Olympics looms closer.
The opening of the Games is now less than two months away and public confidence has been shaken by the fourth wave of COVID-19 infections as well as a slow rollout of the vaccines.
The nation has banned foreign spectators
Organisers are expected to make a decision next month on whether Japanese fans will be able to attend the Games and under what conditions.
In addition to other measures like banning loud cheering and high-fives, the Yomiuri said the government was considering whether spectators should be required to show a negative test result taken within a week of attending an Olympic event.
