An investigation has revealed allegations of brutal force in an Australian youth detention centre

An investigation by ABC’s Four Corners program, has uncovered allegations of excessive force and brutal treatment at an Australian youth detention centre in Western Australia.

The Banksia Hill facility sees more than 600 children locked up every year. Many of whom are young indigenous children, who suffer from mental illness.

The investigation has released body-cam video footage of children being kept in unlawful confinement and exposed to brutal force.

One indigenous boy told the program, “you’re in white people’s hands,” at the Banksia facility.

Officers in the facility are using potentially fatal physical methods.

In one instance, a child can be heard screaming for breath.

Investigations are underway into the allegations, but there are now desperate calls for a royal commission into the youth detention system.

A warning the following story contains information and video footage of indigenous people who may have died.
