Immigration not to blame for housing crisis, says economist amid rising economic concerns in Australia
Immigration is not the primary cause of Australia’s housing crisis, according to Australia Institute economist Matt Grudnoff, as debate continues over proposed cuts to migration.
Grudnoff argues the debate is being driven by broader financial pressures and says the Coalition’s immigration plan lacks sufficient economic analysis.
He also warns urban businesses could be affected if migration cuts focus on major cities while regional areas are exempt.
Grudnoff expects immigration to become less contentious as inflation and interest rates fall, easing some of the economic pressures driving the debate.
