U.S. actor Anne Heche “not expected to survive” after a severe car accident which left her vehicle in flames

U.S. Anne Heche is not expected to survive her injuries, following a severe collision in California.

Heche suffered from “a severe anoxic brain injury” and is now being kept on life support, according to a statement from her family.

Doctors are now determining whether her organs are suitable for donation.

In the statement, the family said it had “long been her choice” to donate her organs.

It continued, adding “we want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers for Anne’s recovery and thank the dedicated staff and wonderful nurses.”

Heche is being cared for at the Grossman Burn Center , at West Hills hospital in California.

The actor remains in a critical condition but is not expected to survive her injuries.

The family say Heche had a huge heart and “touched everyone she met with her generous spirit”.

“More than her extraordinary talent, [Heche] saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work — especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love,” the statement added.

The 53-year-old crashed her car into a house in Mar Vista, Los Angeles on Friday.

Investigations will continue as to whether Heche was impaired at time of the incident.

Additional testing is required to rule out any substances that may have been administered in the hospital.
