Google is seeking to remove home addresses, passwords and phone numbers from its online search results.
Until now, the search engine produces results that may lead to identity theft.
Google’s online policy says it “preserve[s] information access if the content is determined to be of public interest”.
But these new changes mean the tech giant can stop showing certain URL links connecting hackers to unsuspecting people’s private details.
Google says “the internet is always evolving”, and these changes are part of that shift.
The company will also remove other harmful content like explicit or intimate images, including pornographic deepfakes.
Earlier this week, the European Commission passed new legislation to crackdown on Google’s online misinformation.
