Flying car wins airworthiness certificate

A flying car which has the capability of flying above 8,000ft at a speed of 160 km/h has been granted an airworthiness certificate

The flying car which is capable of hitting speeds over 160km per hour and fly at an altitude above 8,000ft has officially been issued with a certificate of airworthiness by the Slovak Transport Authority.

The hybrid car-aircraft known as the AirCar, is fitted with a BMW engine and it runs on regular petrol-pump fuel.

It takes two minutes and 15 seconds to transform from car into an aircraft

The certification came after 70 hours of flight testing and more than 200 take-offs and landings, the company said.

“AirCar certification opens the door for mass production of very efficient flying cars,” its creator, Prof Stefan Klein, said.

“It is official and the final confirmation of our ability to change mid-distance travel forever.”

In June 2021, the flying car completed a 35-minute flight between international airports in Nitra and Bratislava, Slovakia
