Eurovision winners trade $900,000 trophy for war drones

The Ukrainian band which won this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, have sold their winning trophy

Kalush Orchestra are on a mission to raise money for the war in Ukraine, selling its winning trophy for $900,000

The crystal microphone was auctioned on Facebook, with the aim of buying drones for Ukraine’s military.

Drones are used heavily by Ukrainian and Russian forces, both as weapons and reconnaissance aircraft.

The band also appeared at a charity concert in Berlin, also raising money for medical care and supplies for Ukrainians.

Speaking at the concert, band member Oleh Psiuk appealed for people not to get used to the war.

Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra won the Eurovision Song Contest in Italy this month with their entry “Stefania”.

The band are riding a wave of public support, welcomed by the country’s president.
