Almost a year after closing its borders with the rest of the world, the European Union has announced it will allow tourists once again

The move will see individuals who are both vaccinated and arriving from countries with low infection rates allowed to visit the continent.

In what is a huge win for the tourism sector it’s expected that an approved list of so-called “safe destinations” will be signed and made available this week.

Individual member states will reportedly retain the ability to impose public health restrictions including mandatory quarantine periods and proof of vaccination.

To be included on the list of approved countries officials say countries with less than 75 cases per 100,000 people will be considered.
