Phone booths remain an iconic feature in London but in New York City they are no more

The last public booth has been removed from NYC with the rise of cellphones rendering them useless.

The mission to remove the once-popular pay-phones began in 2014 coming to an end on Monday.

Link NYC kiosks have replaced the majority of phone booths across the city allowing users to charge their devices, use wi-fi and make free phone calls.

Now nearly 2,000 of these kiosks can be found around the city.

Commissioner Matthew Fraser says this is just another step forward in the digital evolution as cities adapt to “meet the demands of our rapidly changing daily communications needs”.
