Foreign airlines have suspended commercial flights to Afghanistan following a take-over by Taliban forces

Emirates has become the latest airline to suspend flights to Kabul. The Middle Eastern carrier says it’s concerned with the escalating violence in Afghanistan amid the Taliban taking over.

Emirates states that a flight to Kabul on Sunday was forced to divert due to a temporary closure of the airport runway.

According to FlightRadar24, the Emirates Boeing 777-300 flight circled the capital of Afghanistan before returning to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“We are monitoring progress on the situation in Afghanistan and are working closely with all relevant authorities to ensure the safe operation of our services,”

said an Emirates spokesman.

Fellow Dubai state-owned carrier Fly-dubai earlier has also suspended flights to Kabul.
