DOJ launches investigation into U.S. document leak

Department of Defence says ‘sensitive and highly-classified material’ was released online

Intelligence officials are working to identify how more than 50 U.S. documents were leaked online.

Dozens of the documents dated to February 28 and March 1 contain what U.S. National Security agencies believe is genuine information however they continue to comb through the secrets that have been posted on the Internet.

The Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin III says he was made aware of the document leak on April 6.

As the leak is being describe as a massive and embarrassing security failure, Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been racing to reassure allies of America’s commitments – especially after some of the documents included details on the war in Ukraine and battlefield assessments.

The Pentagon says it has referred the situation to the Department of Justice who has launched a criminal investigation.
