Democrats will vote to codify abortion rights into Fed. law

US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says lawmakers will vote next week to codify abortion rights into federal law

As Democrats lead an effort to protect abortion through enacting legislation, it’s unlikely to pass, needing 60 votes to pass in the 100-member chamber that is evenly split.

This of course follows a draft Supreme Court judgment being leaked just days ago, indicating the nation’s top court has decided to overturn the key Roe V. Wade decision.

If this is the case, it will make the legality of abortion a decision left for individual states.

While the draft could still change, if it is not altered, it will likely result in 26 states banning abortion within the space of just a few months.

Schumer says his fellow Republican lawmakers have two decisions, they can either “own the destruction of women’s rights, or reverse the course”.
