The Iraqi capital Baghdad has entered a full curfew following weeks of tension

Two protesters were killed and Iraq declared a nationwide curfew after supporters of Moqtada SADR stormed government palaces in Baghdad’s Green zone.

It comes after a powerful Shi’ite leader declared he was quitting politics.

Hundreds have been camped outside parliament for weeks after previously storming it in protest.

Sadr’s announcement comes after he called for all parties and figures involved in political life following the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq to quit.

The White House has expressed concern about the violence unfolding in Iraq but denied that personnel were being evacuated from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
