Judge says Department of Justice has not met its burden of showing that the entire affidavit should remain sealed

A U.S. Magistrate Judge heard requests and arguments during an in-person hearing regarding the unsealing of FBI records related to last week’s raid of former President Donald Trump’s home.

Following that unprecedented and shocking early-morning raid on Trump’s private residence, Mar-a-Lago in Florida, U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart, has ordered the release of other documents related to the FBI raid.

In court on Thursday, Judge Reinhart also said that the Department of Justice has not met its burden of showing that the entire affidavit should remain sealed. He said he believes the DOJ has not sufficiently shown that the document should remain entirely secret.

Trump has maintained that the FBI raid was unjustified, and in the interest of transparency, he called on federal investigators to release the affidavit related to the search of his home.

Now, the Department of Justice has one week to review the affidavit and submit a redacted version to Judge Reinhart next week.
