The US and European Union have announced a new global partnership that will see greenhouse gas methane cut by 2030

The agreement plans to have methane levels cut by 30 percent when compared with 2020 levels.

Methane is one of the most potent greenhouse gasses, having devastating impacts on the environment, and scientists believe it is responsible for a third of current global warming by humans.

The reduction pledge was first introduced by the EU and America in September, and now over 100 countries have signed up to act.

Meanwhile, the European Commission President says cutting methane is “one of the most effective things we can do to reduce near-term global warming”
