Conversion therapy is now a criminal offence in New Zealand, after parliament passed a new law

New Zealand’s Parliament just passed a law that will ban conversion therapy, with the support of nearly all MPs in the House.

The law now makes it a criminal offence to attempt to change or suppress a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity through the harmful therapy practices

All but eight MP’S voted in favour of the bill.

There’s been tears of joy outside New Zealand’s parliament and members of the LGBT+ community have taken to social media to express their support of the legislation.
