The committee investigating the Capitol Riots is sending subpoenas to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and other Republicans

The lawmakers have rejected the panel’s requests voluntarily co-operate with the matter.

The panel has been weighing up whether to subpoena their Republican colleagues for months.

It comes as they try to work out whether they had the constitutional right to do so, and debating if they wanted to set such a precedent.

The hearing is less than a month away, putting pressure on the panel to gather all the information that it can.

Bennie Thompson is the Democratic Chairman on the Panel, who says his colleagues “have information” relevant to the January 6 riots.

He says “the individuals receiving subpoenas have refused” to comply with the investigation.

Five people lost their lives during the riots. Four police officers also died by suicide following the attacks.
