Chinese tech giants like Tik Tok have been forced to share details of their prized algorithms with the Chinese government

U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner’s legal team has officially appealed her nine year sentence for for narcotics possession and trafficking.
The WNBA player was convicted after she was caught brining cannabis oil into Russia.

Griner has admitted fault but says it was an honest mistake, as her defence team stage an appeal.

It’s an unprecedented move that signals Beijing’s oversight over its domestic internet sector.

The Cyberspace Administration of China has now released 30 algorithms alongside a description of their purpose from companies including Alibaba and gaming giant Tencent.

Algorithms are the secret sauce behind the success of many of China’s technology companies because they target users with products or videos based on information about that customer.

It’s unclear how much insight the regulator had into the inner workings behind the algorithms from the technology companies.

China’s move to create a registration system for algorithms is unprecedented.

Tesla has not yet commented on the judge’s decision, but the lawsuit raises questions about the transparency and fairness of the company’s insurance pricing.
