Russia has launched a deadly attack on a train station used for the evacuation of civilians

30 people have reportedly been killed and around 100 have been injured in a train station attack in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine.

The railway chief has confirmed a Russian attack has caused a mass casualty event, as emergency responders continue to access the area to assist those wounded.

Regional governor Pavlo Kyrylenko says that thousands of people were at the train station at the time of the strike as they prepared to evacuate to safer regions as Russia focuses its troops in eastern Ukraine.

“The ‘Rashists’ (‘Russian fascists’) knew very well where they were aiming and what they wanted: they wanted to sow panic and fear, they wanted to take as many civilians as possible,”

Images that have surfaced online have shown the devastating reality of the aftermath of the attack, as innocent civilians lay dead on the street.

Analysts have been predicting an uptick in violence in eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region, following Kremlin forces withdrawing from the Kyiv region in preparation for a renewed assault in the east.
