A Brazilian hospital chain is being accused of testing unproven drugs on uninformed elderly COVID-19 patients
A lawyer for the doctors says at least nine people died of COVID-19 during trials from March to April last year, but their causes of death was altered in official records.
This comes as Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro promoted a ‘miracle cure’ and downplayed the severity of the virus.
A hospital chain denies the accusations, saying it “rigorously reported” all deaths.
They say its treatments of covid patients were largely successful with only 7 percent of the 56,000 dying.
A hospital owner says records only removed reference to COVID-19 after patients were no longer contagious, having been hospitalised for two weeks.
He says the hospital did not test unproven drugs on patients, saying they were only prescribed when requested.
