The Boeing 777 was shot down in 2014 by pro-Russian rebels while it was flying over eastern Ukraine.

The flight was traveling between Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur with 298 people on board.

All of them – including 38 Australians died in the attack.

The Australian government says that it is finally time that Russia be held accountable for the attack that has left many families wanting justice.

The case will now rely on evidence that the flight was shut down by a Russian missile system.
