A court in Myanmar has found deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi guilty of electoral fraud, and sentenced her to three years in jail with hard labour.

The Nobel laureate and figurehead of Myanmar’s opposition to decades of military rule has been detained since a coup in February 2021, and has already been convicted of several offences.

She has been previously sentenced to 17 years jail, but denies all the allegations made against her.

Suu Kyi has been judged to have committed fraud in a November 2020 general election, that her National League for Democracy party won with an overwhelming majority.
