A man has driven his car into a barricade near the U.S. Capitol building, before firing gunshots into the air and then fatally shooting himself

The incident happened just before 4am local time, and no one else was injured during the attack.

Police say the individual fired several gunshots into the air near along East Capitol Street and as authorities moved in, he turned the gun on himself.

Concerns are growing for law enforcement officials, who are facing an increasing number of threats following the FBI’s raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home.

Debris at the scene of the car crash

“Nobody else was hurt,” the spokesperson said. “At this time, it does not appear the man was targeting any members of Congress, who are on recess, and it does not appear officers fired their weapons.”

Capitol police investigators are looking into the man’s background and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the death.
