To the naked eye – it seemed like Apple was victim to a hack. Here’s what really happened

Initial reports out of the U.S say the Apple News app was compromised on Tuesday night New York time

Someone was able to send a push notification with graphic and racist language.

This is a screenshot posted by a user, shared on social media, showing the damage from the hack.

“THRAX WAS HERE,” the end of the message said.

Apple News users received a push notification with explicit language.

It’s unclear where exactly the breach occurred.

The offensive alert linked to an article from Fast Company, titled: “Texas Christian activists are seeking to deny Civil Rights Act protections to bisexuals.”

No immediate explanation from either Apple or Fast Company as of Tuesday night local time.
