While the world reels under the impacts of the Delta variant – there’s now a new one that is worrying nations around the world
The Lambda variant is believed to have started in Peru is now a “variant of interest” by the World Health Organization last month.
A variant of interest category is a level below the “variant of concern.”
There are currently four variants of interest.
This does not mean that these variants have been yet confirmed to be more transmissible or to cause more severe infections.
Though the Delta variant is still believed to be the most transmissible it dominates most infections across the world.
There are six cases of the Lambda variant that have now been found in the UK, all linked to international travelers.
