All of New Zealand locked down after new COVID case detected

All of New Zealand will be placed under a hard lockdown for at least three days

The entire country will head into lockdown after a 58 year old man in Auckland tested positive for the virus.

This is New Zealand’s first community case in 170 days.

At this stage it is the one known case, his wife has not tested positive but authorities are quickly contact tracing to get it under control.

The director general of health says the case was identified in Auckland, “but it’s a national issue” – as there is currently no clear link to the border.

All of the nation will move to a Level 4 lockdown for three days from tonight

Auckland and the Coromandel Peninsula will likely be at level 4 for at least seven days.

Cabinet has decided to move all of New Zealand to Level 4 from 11:59pm tonight. Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula likely to be at L4 for seven days, rest of the country for three days at this stage
